Wait Wait Stats Updates: 1998

Posted: May 23rd, 2011 | Author: | 2 Comments »

I just wanted to give all of you “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!” fans an update on the statistics page. I am in the process of adding the panelist and guest information for 1998. Scores will be added once the panelists and guests have been entered in, along with show descriptions.

Whether I can maintain a decent pace will have to depend on the amount of spare time I will have in the following four or five days. I hope to get a good portion of the 1999 data added during the month of June. I hope to complete a year of stats each month until I have caught up.

During that time, I will try to work on a way to note where each show is recorded, be it in studio, at Chase Auditorium, or on the road. Here’s to hoping that I can find enough spare time to get the page completed ;)

    Hey Linh!

First let me thank you for being sort of obsessive about something so many of us enjoy, but would probably not go to lengths you go to put WWDTM in a different, more graphically represented perspective… It is people like you who make this whole information-sharing thing work… and fuel the obsessive nature of the rest of us… :-) I just LOVE that you’re busy filling in the blanks on your WWDTM stat site. I fear for the day you lose interest completely, and I try not to take your efforts for granted… That said, I have an idea….

My ideas are often based on marketing / ease of use (as well as on trying to gain the favor of people that I enjoy in life), while your process seems more purely analytical (though you include some personal notes on the shows). I was wondering if you’ve ever considered linking each show to it’s page on the NPR/Wait Wait site. They’re doing a bang up job of posting audio, and in many cases even transcripts of each show. This way, when a person is perusing the stats and see something they’d like to hear, they can jut go listen to it right away. (On the “gaining favor/being helpful/sucking up front – I would think this would increase traffic at the NPR site, too.)

Anyway, just an idea! I am nothing if not FULL of (rather obsessive) ideas! ;-)

    See you on Twitter!

I have actually considered turning the show date into a link pointing to that show’s page on NPR.org. I know that they are using a pretty standard URL format for the newer shows, but will have to figure out what the format is for the older shows.

I’m trying to find time and clean up the code for the site (it’s pretty spaghetti-like right now), but this shouldn’t be too difficult to do.
