Site Updates

You may have noticed that the design of the site has changed. I finally upgraded the content management software that powers this website. With a new version comes a new look and several changes to the site's functionality.

The new look is due to the software's new skinning templates and coding requirements, which rendered the last skin unusable. Instead of trying to modify the previous theme, I decided to use a custom theme and modified it even further.

Another change to the site is that the site now uses reCAPTCHA on some of the forms on the site, in hopes to reduce (if not prevent) comment spam or false user registrations.

Over the next several months, I will be looking into building a brand new site. The site may or may not have a conventional blog or the fancy features as this site... or it might. I don't know as I have not decided in which direction to go yet.

Hey Linh, Just thought I'd

Hey Linh,

Just thought I'd drop you a note as a gentle breeze (as opposed to a blast) from the past.  This is Bill Dorr from Tigard High, driver's ed, and of course TigerNet.  I just stumbled across your site by Googling for a hosts.allow syntax example, and happened to notice your name at the bottom of the page.  Small Internet, isn't it?  Anyways, your site was a help to me securing my little web server after it was hacked and used by Romanian phishers for a few hours last week.  Believe me, I smacked myself in the forehead more than a few times when I realized all the gaping security holes I had that let them in, not just in my hosts file, but in various other ways, doh.  Anyways, it's nice to see you're working on and contributing to things that you enjoy.

Bill

Hey

It's been quite some time since TigerNet, eh?

I'm glad that you found the article helpful and it's been a while since I have posted more articles or quick tips on my site. Hopefully I'll get around to it sooner or later.
